Since 1996, Fiji Guide has provided readers with all they need to plan and book a vacation. This includes practical advice on accommodations, scuba diving, dining, surfing, trekking and even kava drinking. We also have more photos (2400+) than any other Fiji website.
The recent devaluation of the Fiji dollar makes it even more of a bargain. The Fijians really can use the commerce. With all the travel advisories, visitor arrivals are down and staff hours at most resorts are cut back. The Fijian people need your business.
And yes...Fiji is a safe place to visit. You're as secure here as anywhere on the planet. The politics, while at times disconcerting, don't impact the visitor. For those who follow politics one of the best blogs I've found is Fiji: The Way it Was, Is and Can Be. For other recommended reading visit articles I've posted a few links on the bottom of the history page of this website. Now a little about me: I'm the original author of the Lonely Planet Travel Survival Kit to Fiji and the recipient of the Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism award. I have covered the Fiji Islands as a journalist for the past 30 years. I visit Fiji regularly to stay abreast of developments. Fiji is my adopted home. I know it, love it, and want my fellow travelers to experience the best it has to offer.
Special thanks to Paddy Ryan.who has provided a great deal of photography on the site (including a national history gallery) and Dame Jane Resture for images from her wonderful vintage postcard collection including some great photos of Fiji's yesteryear. My biggest mahalo is to Dan Leuck and Mika Terada of **Ikayzo**, who orchestrated and designed this latest incarnation of Fijiguide.com. They also provided me with countless photos and videos. The best darn web people in Hawai'i and probably west of the Mississippi. If you have any comments regarding these pages let me hear from you. Email me at rkay@fijiguide.com.
